“I was looking for ways to not only improve my professional knowledge but to find ways to collaborate with medical professionals and work more effectively with private clients as they seek to achieve and maintain better health.”
What drew you to your healing discipline at MUIH?
As an experienced yoga teacher (of over 20 years) and a certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor, I was looking for ways to not only improve my professional knowledge but to find ways to collaborate with medical professionals and work more effectively with private clients as they seek to achieve and maintain better health. Once I saw the M.S. in Yoga Therapy program I knew I had to be part of this pioneering program!
Why did you choose MUIH for your academic program?
Not only was yoga therapy the very program I was looking for, it was in my neighborhood!
Describe your path since graduating:
I still teach my regular yoga classes while building my private client base. I am reaching out to the local business community, contacting local medical practitioners, and have even applied for a position with the U.S. Army as a yoga therapist!
What have you accomplished that is a result of the education and skills you received here?
I have fine-tuned my observational skills; I now know how to research medical conditions my clients and students may be suffering from so I can better modify asanas and sequences for them; and I have broadened my range of offerings within the wide tradition of yoga. My long-time students have remarked that my teaching skills have become even stronger than before.
What would you like to do next, professionally speaking?
I love to keep learning, growing, and then sharing what I learn with those who need some guidance; I wish to remain open to new opportunities as they arise rather than set a rigid path to follow.
